Try charcoal pouches. I used them when my daughter moved back in, then moved out and her room smelled like smoke, yuck! I put them all around and they worked great but they did take a few days to start working.

First find the source. Then the smells should start to dissipate on their own. Vinegar helps you can put little bowls around to absorb smells. Baking powder will do the same. Where is the smell? That's important too.
Use good old charcoal from a bag used for bbq.
As for how to distribute them, you can simply lay a few out in a metal tray. Other options: sew pouches for them or use an old sock, then hang them in inconspicuous areas. Line a basket with foil or plastic and lay the briquettes inside.
Be sure to get natural briquettes without mesquite or easy-light additives.
If the musty smell is in a trunk or container, add some softener sheets and close the lid for a while. If it is a room then you need to be sure that there is fresh air coming into the space and deter any moisture accumulation which may be causing the problem. In a room, add a fan for air circulation.
We purchased an ionizer for our basement. They run about $60. Our daughter told us this is what her hotel chain uses in rooms that someone smoked in. You cannot be at home (nor your pets) when you use this but it does air out quickly.
where is the musty smell? If on furniture I seal it up with this stuff then paint https://dixiebellepaint.com/slick-stick-new-sizes/?aff=212
