Cold water, Woolite in a laundry tub or large container. Submerge wool. Manipulate the article in the soapsuds, but do not agitate or twist. Let set 30 min.
Drain and rinse until there's no soap residue. Gently press to remove excess water.
Dry flat atop multiple heavy, light colored towels if wool is light in color.
Replace towels after 24 hours, until dry.
Always use cold water with Zero soap liquid, which is made specially for wool and cold wash items. It is best to do it by hand. Use a cold water rinse with a bit of vinegar it to help remove the excess suds and to make the garment soft. Lay the garment on a flat surface so that it does not stretch out of shape while drying.
Handwash in cold water using various cleaners that are made for wool like this one or this one that has no allergens, etc.
If the item will fit in a mesh laundry bag, I've had great success washing woolens in the washing machine. Use Woolite, add the cold water, add the mesh bags of woolens, and set the machine for hand wash or the most delicate cycle. For drying, I like to lay the items flat on sweater drying racks, which allow air to get at both sides, in a place where air circulation is good, or use a fan set on low nearby.
