Hi Hattie! I work in a hospital and we sometimes have to use a special room air freshener for odors that come about after changing bed pads or patient's bandages. This is the one we use and it only takes 1-2 sprays https://www.amazon.com/577018A-Biological-Eliminator-Ounce-Medical/dp/B002NS6ZRY Keep in mind though, if the person you're taking care of has respiratory issues such as asthma or COPD, they can be sensitive to certain types of spray.
Essential oils in a diffuser would work great! You can purchase them from individuals who sell oils or from Amazon!
I use these to remove any foul odors and they really work (better than air fresheners that just cover up the odor): https://amzn.to/2GbADb1
I love using essential oils drops on my vents in the house. When the air blows it sends refreshing scent through the house. Best in winter when its warm air but it works in the summer too.
