My kitchen cabinets are embarrassingly greasy. Please share your degreasing tips with me so I don't have to cringe every time I glance at my cabinets.
Best way I ever saw suggested that I actually tried was to take them down, fill the bath tub with a few inches of soapy water, put the blinds in the tub, and use a clean broom to scrub them. It's a little messy because you have to flip them over at some point to get them clean, but it works well. Once they are clean, drain the tub and rinse them using the shower (a hand-held shower is ideal for this part). Semi-dry them using old towels - just enough to make sure they aren't going to drip, then hang them back up in the windows to finish drying. Leave them down and open until they are dry. You might need to rub a little spot here or there after they dry because you might not get every single bit with the broom and tub method, but it will certainly take care of the majority of gunk.
You probably need to take them down first, if you can do so, and if they are not too brittle (meaning might break easily) you can lay them in the bath tub with warm water and use mild detergent and gently wash them with a cloth or soft brush. I once took mine out in the yard and hung them on the fence and hosed them down but they are newer and vinyl.
There might be some sprays or solutions that can be used while they are up but then I have not looked. Sometimes I just use a damp cloth. on the surfaces, but then they do swing around some. it is a bit time consuming depending on how thorough a job you want.
My blinds are older than 20 years. I fill the bath tub to about 4” and add grease cutting dish washing liquid. I put maybe 3 sets of blinds in the water at a time and let the blinds sit a bit. I dip the blinds up and down a few times, which cleans both sides of the blades. I rinse them and let them drain a bit. Our deck is fairly long and I can have them all out there to air dry.
my favorite way is to put them out on the lawn and blast them with a sprayer of soapy water , rinse, then flip them to get the back side. leave them dry.
