What could I put as a window topper for this slider?
Looking for creative suggestions for a window topper for this slider. Had vertical blinds but took them down. Cant have anything that hangs too low because we go in and out to the patio.

Would you put curtains over french doors?
I have the french doors in my living room. The living room is separated by a large fireplace. It goes out into a sunroom.
I like it without anything! If you want some privacy looking from the outside into the house put some privacy window film on the glass sliding doors.
a nice big natural piece of reclaimed wood or natural wood with some ambient lighting behind it just set neatly in space above door
Grommet drapes?
I would recommend a valance. There are many ideas of simple ones, padded ones (easy to make with no sew) and darling ideas if you click on "explore projects" then "decorate" then "windows" and you will see many more ideas than I could list. I have chosen one for you Gail, I hope it helps: https://www.hometalk.com/categories/decorate/windows/valances
I used full Roman shades on my sliders at one point. This also helped to keep the cold air out because they were insulated. If you mount near the ceiling when not extended they hang just a bit below the top of the slider. If you just want a valance you could do the same thing and maybe also put them on the windows.
I would put a piece of artwork above it.
I would make a cornice out of foam board that goes from the outside edge of window on the left to the outside edge of the window on the right. Hang high just to the ceiling and long enough to cover the topper on the shades. Use whatever fabric you like that coordinates with your room.
I would build easy crown molding tops for all windows. They will provide nice look without being in the way. They don't require much skill to build and won't look too busy!
Grommet draperies for privacy. Otherwise, hang a thin rod and use smaller drapery clips to attach square cloth napkins with a color and design you like on the rod. The cloths can be overlapped, as desired, but will not be in the way when door is opened or closed.
You didn't say why you want a "topper" above your slider. Is it just for decoration?
In that case Gail, I agree with others that a colorful long narrow valance would look great. I believe there are kits you can buy for the frame or you can make one from lightweight wood or even foam. I made one from a thin wood from Lowe's then stapled some padding on it before covering it in a pretty fabric. It wasn't hard.
If you go with a cornice board you would also need to do the same for the side windows. Otherwise it would look off. Cornice boards on the slider and windows would look good and cohesive. The door frame is lower and the windows are slightly higher. It does look off as it is.

How about mounting pretty pieces of driftwood or some gently weathered trim. It would dress the top but won't have to match the side windows.
