Hello Mary! I roll up my large rug and take it outside on my deck or cement garage floor and use the carpet cleaner. I drape it over lawn chairs to dry. Some professional carpet cleaners have drop off services at their place of business as well. I do have to move furniture around to get it rolled up and out the door but I would rather do that than ruin the floors underneath.
Thanks,
Hey, Mary! I agree with Gk. I have one in my living room that I put in the driveway to clean. I am lucky, though, mine is actually an indoor outdoor carpet that I had on a large front porch on the previous house that we lived in so It is easy to clean and rinse with a hose.
When I clean a client's rug, I too will use the driveway or deck to clean if really dirty which means you will be getting it wetter with your carpet cleaning machine.
I really recommend cleaning the rug frequently before its really dirty so you just have to get the surface clean but not wet the whole carpet. I use a Hoover SteamVac carpet cleaner on alll my clients rugs, its the best I've ever used.... it really sucks up all the dirty water. I then put a couple floor fans on it to dry it fast.
I put a big piece of heavy plastic (Visqueen- used in construction) under it and clean with the hoover carpet cleaner (too big to take outside)
