How to clean baseboards?
My baseboards have a 'ledge' for lack of a better term, that get absolutely grimy. My mother says the only way to clean the is to paint them E.V.E.R.Y. year. The ole broom wrapped in cloth method just doesn't get it.
Any suggestions other than cleaning them every month?

Hello Geri! Unfortunately I think the best way to cleab your baseboards is to get down on your hands and knees with a cleaning rag and a bucket of warm soapy water and clean away. I don't clean mine every month but I do clean them at least seasonally. Painting them would freshen them up but it wouldn't stop the dust and grime from coming back. You will still have to deal with the dust and grime. My baseboards are stained so I don't see the dust as much. White baseboards are another story!
I had the same and for years had to do the floor shimmy to wash them down monthly.
There is a cure. I tore them out and replaced them with plain molding that just has a
curved top. No place for the dust to settle. Now I can just wipe them down here and
there. It cost me about $60 room. A bit costly but it sure has saved me a lot of time.
Hi Geri,
If you don't what to get on your hands & knees or do the shimmy, :0 you could get a rolling stool. Another idea is to dust them with just a dust mop more often. That should help them stay cleaner. Good luck. Wishing you the best.
A stiff paint brush like the 2" chip brushes that are so cheap, works wonders. You can screw it to a wooden pole or a 1 x 2 board and scrub the tops of the baseboards while standing up and walking.
