Our cottage is coming on 100 years old. We use joint compound (pre-mixed in a tub) for our "wrinkles" to fill in the cracks. It is quick, simple and easy. Use a small trowel to get the surface smooth. When dry sand a few rough spots if necessary and re-paint.
You need to widen the cracks carefully, then brush out all debris. Then fill the cracks with plaster. Several light coats may be better than one heavy one.
After multiple repairs, we finally covered the walls with 1/4" drywall for perfectly smooth new walls.
All good suggestions listed above. Please be aware this will continue to happen due to expansion and contraction,
