How do I deal with lead paint on a baby cradle?
I have a baby cradle that my uncle built in 1960. Don't know if it was painted with lead based paint but assuming yes. How do I get rid of it or can I paint over it. There is no peeling on it.

You can have it tested. Then seal it and paint.
Donāt sand it if lead based!
You can buy lead test kits at any paint store, Home Depot, Lowes, or Menard's. If it is lead paint you can seal it with shellac or a shellac based primer then paint. Do not muse anything else to seal it. Bullseye Sealcoat works on odors in wood will also work on lead paint.
How to Eliminate Old Furniture Odors When Nothing Else Works?
Your best hope for sealing in those smells is shellac. It makes an excellent barrier coat over all wood species, and it sticks to almost anything, including urine. Zinsser makes a great product for this purpose, called BullseyeĀ® SealCoatā¢. Itās a clear dewaxed shellac that you can apply to those drawer interiors easily with a brush. It dries quickly and should help to diminish that any smell. And since it doesnāt contain wax, you can apply other finishes like lacquer or varnish over it ā theyāll stick just fine. SealCoat is also handy to have around the shop as a general purpose wood finish and sanding sealer. So, Iām sure youāll find other uses for whatās left of the quart you buy.
Buy a lead test kit. They are cheap and available at paint stores and home improvement stores.
Use a durable primer and paint, as long as the paint remains intact itās cosidered sealed.
just make sure the sealer you use is also non toxic because babies & kids chew on furniture. If it were me & my kids I would use chemical stripper and remove old paint then refinish it safely, especially crib, cradle, high chair. Even if it's for decorative use and I had a pet that chews on stuff.
Depending on how much it's worth to you, you can have the whole piece dipped by a professional furniture refinisher and bring it back to bare wood.
