Use white vinegar in the rinse cycle of your machine and cold water.
Wash alone in cold water with a gentle soap.

Vinegar in the wash will retain the color. Dryer heat will set the color. No fabric softener or softener sheets.
Vinegar in the rinse. If your washing machine has a cycle that spins the water out only without rinsing (adding more water) and spinning, use that cycle.
Otherwise, hand wring the water out of the jeans, before drying.
Some others advice is to turn your jeans inside out and don’t put them in the dryer.
