The chain links can be remove by cutting with a pair of cutting pliers. The extra wire can be hidden in the canopy.
Hi. Can you try looking it up like the picture below? or was it directly above a table? Also, if you don't like the look of the cord and chair that are some great fabric chain covers out there now that you just slip over and you don't see it. Good luck.

So you can cut it off to the proper height, (which is about 36" from the table top to the bottom of the chandelier) if your electric box is mounted where the chandelier needs to hang. But if the box isn't located in the right spot, you can install hooks in the ceiling and loop the chandelier over to where it is supposed to hang. In this post I wrote about making the chandelier longer, toward the end of the post you can see the looped effect I'm talking about.
