I use a handheld Bissell cleaner for spot cleaning on a couch. Put a cleaner formula in the machine and spray with the nozzle. Lightly scrub and suck up all the liquid. It does wonders to remove stains and you can also use this method to spot clean your rugs. Just be careful because on a couch or seat you may get some water marks. In that case you will want to do it again over the entire seat sort of fading the dampness towards the back and sides. I hope that makes sense.
General cleaning, I vacuum. If there is a spot, spray with SpotShot and follow directions. To freshen, sprinkle with baking soda then vacuum up after letting sit.
