How can I paint metal decorative squares (being used for backsplash)?
What product will prevent them from rust. Should it be applied prior painting, after painting or both? Thank you!

RustOleum paint for metal would be my best recommendation. Paint first and touch up after installation.
A good quality paint like Rustoleum would work if you do the individual squares first so that you completely cover all sides.
I would prime them with auto primer from Rustoleum, then paint with a Rustoleum color of your choice.
Use an oil based primer like Rustoleum. Then paint color of choice with acrylic paint and finally a good sealer.
