How do I stencil my entryway table with spray paint?
I just chalk painted my entryway table and want to stencil the trim. I want to use spray paint for the stencil. My question is should I apply the paste wax and polish before I stencil or after?

After, paint won't stick to the wax.
Hi Linda, you’ll want to apply paint before the wax. Paint doesn’t adhere well to wax, especially if it’s been recently applied.
Thank you! Can I then use the paste wax over the spray paint or would it better to use a craft paint with the stencil, I just like the color of the spray paint because it matches the hardware on the table.
Wax can go on after. I would use spray adhesive to hold the stencil in place since you're using spray paint. Lightly spray the back and make sure it's re-positional adhesive. When using spray paint, go for the lightest coats possible to avoid leaking under the stencil.
You would usually apply the wax or sealer after you do the stencil. I would also use a pouncer or brush to apply the stencil rather than spray paint. The spray paint can get under the stencil and run.
Yes, I was concerned about the spray paint. But it’s the right color, maybe spray it on wax paper then dab it on the stencil with a pounder.. guess I’ll just have to give it a try. Thanks so much!
