Is my Blue Heron Japanese
I have a Blue Heron visiting my pond weekly who seems to enjoy goldfish and Koi sushi.
I am wondering if he’s Japanese, and if so, how can I send him home?
The Koi are expense to stock and this bird is costing me a small fortune in food. Plus, I miss my old fish.

Hey Mr. A. Depending on the size of your pond, you could build a frame covered with mesh screening so that naughty heron can't get his free meal. It will also help keep trash pandas out. I've found the best way to keep them from returning, is to actually chase them out while making lots of noise. Every. Damned. Time. He shows up. Eventually he'll decide it's not worth the trouble. A nice barking dog, larger than meal size will work also☺ Good luck!
Saw a lady's pond for fish, she had put a wire fence with grids over the small pond. Remove the source of food and it will leave😁
You could try offering him a first class ticket home, but if that doesn't work you could get a her on decoy. I've seen them for sale online.
Also I know herons land outside the pond, so if you create a barrier or make it hard for him to land near the pond and get to it that may help stop him
And make sure you have lots of places your koi and gold fish can hide from him, logs, little caves, houses (they don't need mansions but something that won't drive waterfront property prices up ;) lol)
Good luck!
This is the most well-known and most widespread heron in North America. ... As a migratory species, great blue herons are protected by the United States Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
Try covering the pond with something like window screen for a period of time weighted down with rock. (Larger netting can tangle the birds feet) and he or she may look for another source of food and leave your goldfish alone.
I think your Heron is a domestic one, and that you live near (10-20miles) a large source of water: lake, river, ocean.
Do you have a metallic grill installed to keep the larger fish from becoming dinner. Do a local search for nurseries specializing in ponds and ask for help. I'm sure you're not the only koi owner with that problem.
