How do I get rid of ants?

The extremely wet spring has caused a major invasion of ants. Traps don't seem to work. I have a cat, so poison liquid is not an option.

Borax will kill odorous house ants, and powdered sugar will attract them.

Make a homemade ant bait by thoroughly mixing one part borax with 3 parts powdered sugar.

Fill tiny containers (such as bottle caps) with this homemade ant bait and place them as close to the place where you suspect ants are entering your house. If you see trails of ants, place small containers of the mixture directly in their path.

If you have children or pets/animals that can into it you can use this mixture: mix one cup warm water with ½ cup sugar and 3 tablespoons borax. Soak it up with cotton balls and place them in shallow dishes near ant trails.

There are products that are safe for people and pets. Check labels. Only use products in areas the cat can't get to. Also ensure you seal all cracks in the house and remove or containerize food they want. I had an experience when I lived in FL and came home to see a trail of little ants from window, up wall, across ceiling, down into cabinet where my sugar bag was kept. I put everything into Tupperware after that.

Terro is a thick liquid that you place on a piece of paper ( it comes with it). Put near where the ants enter. The ants taste the sugar liquid take it back to the colony and within 3 days the ants will be gone. I at the first sign I use it. My method is to dab on my baseboards & in my floor vent where no person would see , I treat during ant season, heat and cold I & never get ants. Amazing.
