Put the rice in a zip lock bag
This is how I did it for my Pre-K classes: Put the rice in a ziplock bag (quart size) add about 3-5 drops food coloring and close the bag making sure the bag is tightly sealed. Now, mix it up by hand, add more drops if you need the rice to be more intense. Once the rice is the color you want spread it out on a cooking sheet to dry.
