Marie....Can you send a picture so we can see exactly what you are wanting to do? Thanks
You didn't specify whether this is an indoor or outdoor project - so I will assume outdoor. Depending on how much material you need, and I'm assuming it isn't much, you're going to need to get something called thinset or cement patch as your fill - or even grout. There are cement dyes and colored grouts you can purchase - or even try other materials if you can't find the right color or texture (not sure what kind of contrast you want - you may have to experiment - micas, exterior paint, stain, etc.). Mix small amounts of the color into the patch material once it is wet until you get the color you want. I would probably cover the surface around the handprints with something to mask it so you have really sharp lines. Then fill and level the indentations. Wipe the edges around the masking and then pull it off. Once everything cures, you should have a really wonderful conversation starter!
When I was a kid, we did that in vacation bible school. After we did our handprint, we painted the handprints while it was damp and then sealed it.
Could you paint the hand prints with some paint made for concrete?
You could paint it using concrete paint!
HI Marie. You can purchase concrete stain and use a foam brush or a paint brush to apply it to the hand prints.
I am looking for a liquid filler, that will not absorb into the concrete and will withstand the 4 seasons, to fill the depressions and make the concrete level again. Will the concrete paint sink in or sit in top of the concrete? I have never used it. Thank you for your replies, and have a wonderful Friday, ladies!
When I wrote my second reply, I had not scrolled up to see Jan Clark’s response. This sounds like what I’m looking for. Thank you Jan!
I will keep the thread open in case anyone else has any ideas. And I will post a pic as well.
Thank you everyone!
This is what it looks like now. My dog didn’t wait so hers is right near the edge. But I am big into color so I’d like to have the handprints pop out with colors and look playful. And I can build up the edge where the dog print is.
Any suggestions for what to do around the edge of the cement pad? It is at the bottom of the deck stairs.
