Can I fit a 2.4m (7’10”) curtain pole without a centre bracket?

I want to hang a light/medium-weight curtain across a 2.4m (7’10”) alcove at about 2m (6’6”) high. My problem is that the ceiling is around 3m (10’) high, so I can’t use a centre bracket.


Will the pole be secure enough if it’s only supported at each end? I can get hold of a single-piece rod so I won’t have the problem of the weak spot where the poles are joined, but I’m still concerned it will bend/bow.

    No, it Must have a center bracket. Why can't you use a center bracket? We hang drapery 18 feet tall. Just need a ladder . The center bracket is wall mount just like the ends.

      i want to hang the curtains across the open alcove at 2m height and the ceiling is around 3m. For various reasons I don’t want to use a 1m bracket coming down from the ceiling.

    No, the rod will need at least one centre support to prevent bending.

    Were you hoping to mount it from the ceiling, or on the wall?

      I hoped to hang it across an open alcove, wall-mounted on either side, positioned 1m below ceiling height. For various reasons I don't want to put it at ceiling height, and I don't want a 1m bracket coming down from the ceiling either.


      i know that a standard, jointed curtain pole will bend, but was hoping that a thicker, one-piece pole might do it. I guess I always knew I was going to be disappointed!

    Yep, you need a center support. It will sag under weight and gravity.
