How can I clean the dishwasher?

My dishwasher is older. How or what can I do or use for thorough clean inside?

I use Affresh in my washer. It works fantastic. They also have a version for dishwashers. I'm going to get that soon and use it in mine, too.
What is airfresh?
It's like a dishwashing soap pod you use and run it thru an entire wash cycle empty. Not sure of the brand I used, got it at the grocery store called dishwasher cleaner. I did it twice, works great.
My manual for my dishwasher said to put a dish in the empty dishwasher and pour 2 cups of white vinegar in the dish...put this in the top rack of your dishwasher and run an entire normal wash cycle with hot water. I do this about once a month. I do have a filter inside my dishwasher which I take out and clean before running the cycle with vinegar. Since your machine is older, it may not have this filter. No problem.
