How do I get the firewall in the shower clean w/o using a jackhammer?
The Tile has been removed and there is thick cement on the wall that has to be removed. I don't have a jack hammer or is it best to rent one?

Could you use a chisel and hammer first? Jack hammer may be too stronge.
It's called a chipping hammer. With a chissal attached
You don't want to damage your firewall. It is there for a reason. A jackhammer would do a lot of damage.
That may not be a fire wall but a tile board in which tile is set upon. I would check to see if there is any screws or nails in it to remove.
No don't remove the cement backer board, rent a chipping hammer and goes pretty quick and painless wearing long-sleeved shirt, mask and safety glasses and good gloves. I rented one for $45 for 24 hours.
A firewall would be concrete block. too porous for tile.
