Don't need a glaze with Simi gloss.
Sand any gloss off with 200 grit sandpaper. Use any paint you want. Make sure you prime with Kilz primer. Seal with three coats of a water based polyurethane.
I’d recommend chalk paint with a water resistant sealer. Latex won’t hold up to daily wiping.

Use enamel paint. Oil based is the sturdiest.
