Hi Elli. If it is raw wood, I looove Miss Mustard Seed's Milk paint. You can use it as a paint or a stain and it only has 5 ingredients. There are a huge range of colours and on raw wood it looks and works fantastically. Have fun!
First prime with Kilz Original if exterior, Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 if you don't need oil based. Then choose the paint based on the application. For example, if it's an exterior door on the outside you want to make sure you get exterior door paint. If you want some advice from a good source, purchase your paint from a Sherwin Williams store. Check online for discounts.
Thank you very much for taking time to answer my question.
Most paints will stick to wood- the use and location matter most. If the item will be outside, use exterior paint for sure. Also, a good primer or 2-in-1 paint is a good idea when painting bare wood for the first time.
