is there anything i can us to clean cigarette smoke from wood panelin?
My wall paneling is a beige color now, it use to be an off white.
Diane: Congrats on not smoking! ...you'll need to paint and get the carpeting professionally cleaned.
Any big box store, Walmart Home Depot Lowe's carry it and it's called OdoBan
I much prefer the product from Zep, see photo. It's not as disinfectant smelling as OdoBan. And leaves a nice fresh outdoorsy Breeze smell to your room. I get the gallon bottle at Lowyes for less than 10 bucks and use it in an empty spray bottle
You need to clean all of your surfaces repeatedly. I inherited my home from my mom and step dad. My step dad and step brother both smoked roll your own Bugles, pall mall, cigars, pipes.... needless to say, the ceilings were actually dark brown. When I first began, it was like pushing sticky mud around on the ceiling. I used boiling water with a variety of different cleaners, Pine Sol, Mr Clean did the best with boiling water, oxi clean, liquid Lysol, Dawn, goof off, Krud killer ... the flip mop is the best one to use for scrubbing, but a paint roller is best for applying the boiling soapy water. Roll them well, keep dipping in the hot water. Then use the terry covered flip mop to kinda scrub. Tho, scrubbing doesn’t really help. Just coats and coats of boiling cleaner water, mopped with the flip mops flat, terry head. Mop the ceilings, walls, doors, window frames, door frames... you may need to replace lamp shades and most assuredly the light bulbs. Stuff settles on them, then, when they get hot, yuck fest potpourri even....if you have carpet, I’m sorry. Personally, I LOVE my Bissell carpet cleaner. We bought the $89 model straight from Bissell on line. I use oxi clean and water exclusively. However, vinegar is most helpful for removing smoking tars. This house was so bad, it took me the best part of 3 weeks. However.... my home does not smell of smoking things... and I didn’t have to paint because I scrubbed everything white again...
If you paint prior to cleaning all of your surfaces, not just wiping them, but actually cleaning all surfaces, you paint the smell in and your home will always have that underlying hint of nasty. I’ve made that mistake. The hint of it lingers... trust me when I say that it is so worth the effort it takes to scrub it down. Check it out too, speaking as an ex smoker X 8 years now... psychologically speaking, this is good for the whole quitting process. Your scrubbing them right out of your life! Anyway, after all of that scrubbing and you get to see what it’s leaving inside your body, on the back of your teeth....yuck! After all of that work, you’re not about to dirty them back up again! It’s good for you. You are purging. It’s taking action and slamming the door behind them. Ya, why put up with the stink ... you are so done paying that company to help destroy your health and nasty up your home. So, grab the supplies, begin boiling large Pots of water and let the scrub fest begin!
Wash those nasty murderous thieves right out of your life!
