How can I decorate a womens' Levi's trucker jacket?
I got a new levi jacket at 70% sale. It needs something to bring it more alive. I sew a little, I'm looking for something fairly easy.... any suggestions? I was thinking of some leather fringe from a leather purse that I have but then would I be able to wash the jacket?

Hi there, Iron on Motifs, Studs, Badges, Fabric Decoupage, Stencil, Freehand drawing using Sharpies, Embroidery, could always add a bit of lace here and there..etc.....
Lace really fancies up a denim jacket.
Leather is not meant to be washed very often and as it needs conditionig. You could try fabric stores to see if they have an artificial leather product that would hold up to washings and look like leather.
I don't think you need very much embellishment. Look for some cotton doillies or a table runner. Wash them and then if you like, dye them - maybe a dark blue. Then I would just sew some embellishment to the pocket flaps and the center back panel, or the yoke. It shouldn't unravel once you have sewn in place. A little girly, but still a jeans jacket. Rembember to wash your jacket a few times before you add embellishments because denim is a progressive shrinker.
If you are not excited about the sewing, you could buy a piece of open lace and use it as a stencil by dabbing paint on top of the lace creating a reverse lace pattern on the fabric.

One source of inexpensive embellishments for enhancing ready-made clothing is thrift stores. If you enjoy browsing through the racks, you can often be rewarded by finding 'treasures'.: Garments that while the cut may be outdated, or while they may have a flaw or stain in one area, the trims are perfectly good condition.
Don't forget to take a look through accessories also: belts and jewelry for hardware, formal wear for pearls or flowers, and children's holiday clothing for velvets and laces.

Like the tassels on the sleeves, now I have to decide what kind. Thank you for help.
Yes you can wash leather pieces. You could also attach rings to the jacket and make the leather purse tassles detachable with small key ring clips.
Hi, this sounds like a fun project. You might check out Etsy.com to see many embellished jacket ideas. Your jacket can be customized to your taste simply by looking through your stuff and thinking of using items in a different way. Several buttons sewn around the cuffs or collar, old jewelry pieces, some patches of favorite fabric, etc. The possibilities are endless and often starting to lay out a design on the piece will provide you additional ideas. Often a striking brooch or lare pin placed on a pocket can get your creative juices flowing. You can also decoupage pictures or words onto the jacket. Have FUN!
