Granite is my preference
We have quartz. You don't have to seal it and nothing has ever stained it. You can clean it with anything you choose to use.
I drove myself crazy trying to choose one over the other, I picked the design I liked ....and it was granite. I havenโt had any problems with staining etc. just as a side note.i think the darker colors show more dirt/cleaning marks

QUARTZ!!!!!! most assuredly -- granite you have to re-seal at least once a year-- it's a nuisance! I suggest WHITE QUARTZ, maybe with a few striations for "pizazzz!"--- always looks nice, the other "dark" things-- always look dingy AND dirty -- NO MATTER WHAT! Like fixing food on a dirt floor -- we have grown way beyond that! ENJOY! (purely personal opinion, here!)
I would go with quartz. When I redo my kitchen I'm going with white quartz.
Quartz will give you a much more current look than granite. I would definitely go with quartz or quartzite.
I prefer quartz to granite. It's much harder and not porous like granite. The only downside in my opinion is that hot pots can mark the surface.
