How can I remodel or clean louvered panels?
We have bi-fold panels, which are solid core and are louvered in our main bathroom. They are very difficult to keep clean because the space between each louver overlaps and is very narrow. Any suggestions? or... perhaps an easy way to remodel them? I live with disabled folks and have no real handy-one to help me. So I am looking for some ideas that I could do as an elderly woman on my own! Thanks

Hey Sprout! Could you use a swiffer duster on them? I know I had some louvered shutters that were wooden and they had a rough texture (not sanded and finished well) and so they wouldn't work, they would just snag on the louvers, but if they are smooth finished they should work great! If you wanted to take them down and replace them, that is an easy job to do, just removing screws from the old hinges and replacing new screws through the new hinges! But if you wanted to change them in a DIY sense, I am not sure how hard or easy that will be...it will depend on what you decide to do! Hope this helps!
Love the quick answer. Thank you! However, and unfortunately they are not sanded and finished well!.. but rough and dust etc clings to them like glue. I have tried pulling rags through, swifter, and old paint brushes, but the dust and towel lint continues to collect and stick. I had not thought of replacing them. duh! I will check out Home Depot etc and see what they might offer for our size and space. I would be so grateful for something easier to keep clean. Reading what other folks had done I was thinking I would have to cut out the louvers and then replace the space with something flat and easier. Big job for a senior woman! Your suggestions have motivated me toward a new direction e.g. total replacement. I will go with my fingers crossed! Again Thanks.
Before getting solid doors, what is behind the louvered doors? If there's a hot water heater or any other type of appliance, then you'll have to replace the doors with new, properly finished louvered doors. Those types of appliances require ventilation.
The only thing behind the doors is closet space for linens, clothing on hangers, some shoes and 3 suitcases. Thanks for the information and reminder about appliances needing ventilation!
