Hello, I personally find browsing the Houzz or Pinterest web sites to have some awesome visuals to consider in aspects of design ideas and diy applications.
You might want to consider browsing over at these sites utilizing shabby chic key word searches customized to your specific needs or interest and collect images to replicate at your home.
Posting a photo here of your situation might give viewers an idea of what you have to work with to best offer suggestions.
Shabby Chic is a mixture of old and new decor and furniture items placed in your home. There are so many ways to achieve the look you might like that it's best to do some research and start a board of all the things you'd like to incorporate into your home. There are lots of ideas on Pinterest and in magazines to help you out. I find that developing a shabby chic look in your home is an ongoing process! Shopping and hunting for just the right pieces at thrift stores, craft shows, used a bit furniture stores or in Grandma's attic to go with newer pieces you may have in your home!
Here is some inspiration for you!

I think of soft fabrics, soft colors and painted furniture.
This a great decor to do with thrift store or free finds, I've done several houses for friends. I usually look for sheer voiles with embroidery or lace for curtains, soft patterned chinz for upholstry. White painted furniture distressed, or soft colors. Interesting frames, i like the large cut crystal lamps or oriental porcelain ones, and do some treatment to the shade like adding ribbon or one I did covering the whole shade in pastel silk flowers. Antique aged mirrors. Look at a lot of pictures for ideas.
