How can I inexpensively "soundproof" a wall?

I live in a townhouse and my living room wall is adjacent to my neighbors two bathrooms I hear showers, sinks and toilets. I am interested in what wall treatments I could use to help mufffle these sounds in addition to adding insulation or used alone.

Soft fabrics, hangings, etc.help muffle sound. There are materials made to control acoustics. It depends on your budget and how permanent you want it to be.
Hang a decorative quilt on the wall.
If you own it I would invest in either the sound proof batting that will require removing drywall, then re-install it. You could also get the 4x8' sound proof panels, and cover them with fabric and then install right over your drywall. This may not completely resolve the issue cause it happens when they use PVC pipes.... very noisy. Then you could add a white noise machine to play soothing sounds. Pat - i think Kathy's quilt solution would be pretty and practical
If you are in the US, there should be a firewall between the two residences which would provide significant sound attenuation. You may want to check this out because it is also a very important safety feature
