Modern Farmhouse DIY Distressing Paint Technique
You can basically distress any finish. Wood is not hard to do since you can layer paint colors and sand wear points to reveal other color. Dry brushing can also give you the look.
If you only need directions I’m headed to stress it I would use hammer and a chain. Gently hammer the chain into the word and drag a little here and there. When you get a ready to paint if you use a little bit of Vaseline on the wood here and there the paint will will not adhere to where the Vaseline is which also give it a distressed look.
Just lightly sand where wear would naturally happen, and don't overdo it.
