I use winshield washer liquid.
I only use a damp microfiber cloth to clean my car windows as well as glass and windows in the house. I also keep a dry microfiber mitt in the car to dust off the dash and surfaces. My favorite is SuperCloth.
I love Sprayway glass cleaner. It's a foam that comes in a blue lid can.

While working in new construction, cleaning homes top to bottom we used Turtle wax car wash on all the windows I still do. So, I say yes you may use car wash on windows.
