I want to make sure my washing machine is completely clean from inside including the pipes.
Run a small box of baking soda through the machine using hot water. then run a rinse with a cup of vinegar and hot water. Leave top open and air dry. always leave top up to air dry after you finish doing laundry.
I sprinkle a little baking soda in the bottom of the tub & leave the lid open until next load & never had a problem.
washer was here when we bought the house,I couldn't believe the musty wet smell coming from the washer.

If it's a front loader the smell is probably coming from the rubber gasket around the front. Pull back the edge of it and you will see a lot of gunk in there. Clean it with a good cleaner followed by vinegar. Do this regularly.
