Let the clothes soak in the machine for a hour then wash
I have had a lot of success with the wool balls! You add essential oils to them and use them instead of dyer sheets. Works AMAZING!

What type of smell? How long has it been in the clothes?
Do you know where it has come from?
What is the fibre content of the garments?
Are any synthetic, such as polyester or nylon?
Depending on how the clothing has been stored, and if any of the chemicals in the odors have become imbedded into the fibres, simply soaking before a wash cycle might not be sufficient to remove the smells.
I wash them in vinegar and it helps!
Washing with vinegar should help. Unless the material can’t go in the wash, then take it to a dry cleaner.
