My DH wears sleeveless undershirts and no matter what we try they always turn a dingy gray. How can we keep them white or make them white, again?
Too much detergent...this frequently occurs in front load washers, if you've been used to a top loader. Reduce your detergent, or use only HE (high efficiency) detergent, strictly following box directions. Even an oversized front loader filled with laundry should take no more than 3 small spoons (included in package).
If problems persist, switch to felted dryer balls (4-6 in an XL dryer).
Reduce detergent, only use fabric softener every 3rd time, add plain white vinegar to the rinse cycle instead of fabric softener, use wool dryer balls in the dryer. This works for all clothes types. The wool balls are amazing and fluff everything. :)
Wash a load of stiff towels with just water and 2 cups of vinegar to get excess detergent out. The smell will dissipate as they dry.
SOak and clean with white vinegar.
I use fabric softener with mine, every load. I know many people caution against it because it reduces absorbency but I've never had that issue.
