Hi Jude. It will really depend on if the wood has a finish on it or if it is raw. It will also depend on what you plan on putting over it. Can you provide some more details and we will see if we can help...
There is a paint formulated especially for floors that I purchased at Home Depot. It can be tinted and there are 2 versions so you will need to do a bit of research to make sure which one to choose for your application. I'm assuming you are referring to interior floors. They will clean and no type of top coat like polyurethane or varnish.
If you are interested in the specific paint I purchased, I can get the information the next time I go to our farmhouse.

Clean the floor well. Prime with Kilz primer. 100% acrylic latex finish resists mildew, scuffing, fading, cracking and peeling. Latex will expand in warmer temperatures and contracts during cool temperatures. This makes it durable to use in most any condition.
Hey Jude! I used a chalk paint on our floors, it goes on without much prep work. The important part is the sealer. You need to use a sealer especially made for flooring.

I used this from Sherwin- Williams https://www.sherwin-williams.com/painting-contractors/products/porch-floor-enamel
I would use a good primer like Kilz and then consult Sherwin Williams for a good quality paint to go over the primer.
I strongly suggest this paint-- even over porch paint: https://bachelorettepadflip.com/2018/04/09/why-i-had-my-kitchen-cabinets-painted-twice-in-two-weeks/
