Joanne: I also machine wash with detergent and bleach! ...they come out perfectly!
I always wash my shower curtain with a load of towels. You can add vinegar along with your washing detergent. I put the shower curtain in the dryer with the towels for just a few minutes to warm it up before I hang it back up. Works great!
Hi! I don't like bleach, so do mine differently and it works fine. I use hot water, Oxiclean and detergent. Since I have had a front loader for years (I recently bought my second one after using the other nonstop for over 12 years) I add a bath towel to give the more friction in the load. Both come out spotless. Good luck and stay safe!
Shower curtains can become subject to large accumulations of water and soap, the perfect ingredients for mold and other fungi to feed upon. Over time, you may notice pink patches of mold growing on your curtain. It may be a pink mold variety such as Fusarium or it may actually be bacteria (commonly mistaken for household mold) called Serratia marcescens. Whatever the problem, you can fully clean up the problem using natural disinfecting solutions.
Add 1/2 cup of liquid laundry detergent to the detergent dispenser and pour 1/2 cup of baking soda directly into the wash. Sodium bicarbonate (the main ingredient in baking soda) not only freshens laundry but also kills mold and mildew.
Pour 1 cup of distilled (white) vinegar into the machine at the start of the first rinse cycle. The acetic acid from the vinegar will react with the baking soda and kill off the pink mold even more effectively.
Then hang to dry.
Hi Joanne, hope this helps you out, Here's what it is, Pink mold is actually a bacteria and not a fungi. This bacteria, scientifically calledSerratia marcescens, is most commonly found in bathrooms. They tend to grow vigorously in wet, damp, and dark conditions such as showers, bathtubs, tile grouts, wash basins, etc. They feed on any soap or shampoo residue or buildups in bathrooms.
To remove pink mold from shower curtains:
Sprinkle with ½ cup baking soda. Use ½ cup of liquid laundry detergent in the dispenser. Launder with warm water on a delicate setting. Hang to dry in a well-ventilated place (outdoors if possible).
I put my liner in the washer with bleach and then air dry it when it gets too bad I just toss and buy a new one.
I wash my liner with a little bleach in the washer and rehang (spread it out well) to dry.
I spray mine with a hydrogen peroxide. That should clean it and keep it from molding in the future. You can wash on gentle in the machine. Bleach or vinegar with remove it as well.
Spray it with Clorox clean up
