I have had very good results cleaning brass with a product called Brasso.
Hi Dee, a real quick way to clean your brass lamp is to use WD-40. There are other methods such as catsup, tomato paste, etc. but you want to be sure there's no clear lacquer on your lamp. Follow the info within this link and you should be good to go....with a nice shiny lamp!

Well, you have to figure out whether your brass has a lacquer coat, then go from here:

Hi Dee. You can clean your brass lamp with a paste of equal parts of salt, flour, and white vinegar. Apply the paste to the lamp and let it set for an hour. Then rinse with warm water and buff dry. Good luck Dee. Hope you have a happy holiday season.
I've always used a product called 'Brasso'.
I use Brasso to clean brass. it works great!
Brasso is a good product, just prepared for some muscle in the rubbing process of whatever you use. If you have some WD40 lying around, you can coat it with it then let sit 20-30 minutes and rub to clean.
Use ketchup. Just smear it all over let it sit a bit but don't leave it to dry. While still a bit wet just buff it off and polish.
No I have always used BRASSO liquid brass cleaner.

I'd try Brasso, that would do the trick quickly.
