Bentwood rocker
I have a bentwood rocker, 50 years old, cane going, other than paying ridiculous $$ to repair, what can I do with it other than throw it away

You can try the repair yourself. Study up online and try a small test.
Hi Rosalie, I had one of these for years, the cane in the seat of mine went. My husband is good with wood working so he was able to trace the shape of the seat and cut a piece of plywood to that shape, we painted it to match the black rocker and I added a chair pad for extra comfort. You can do the same for the backing as well.
You could also put an new material on it in place of the wicker.

My city offers community education classes. I took a class in cane chair repair and was able to fix my chair. The guidance, advice and knowledge I gained was so helpful.

You could replace with plywood and add cushions.
