The videos show how to install a new construction window with a nailing flange or a replacement window in an existing opening. Your situation is installing a replacement window without a flange in a opening you will frame out. Start with framing out the window opening 1/2" larger than the window. You want 1/4" gap all around the window when it is set in the opening. The next steps are done from inside. Nail 1/2" x 3/4" stops towards the outside of the frame on the sides and top of the framing making sure they are placed so the window is flush with the inside wall. Apply a bead of caulk to the stops and and install the window gently pushing it against the stops. The window should have holes on the sides and top tracks to screw it to the framing. Make sure you have an even gap on the sides and top. Use wood shims between the window and framing where the screw holes are. Check the window for level and plumb. Also check that the window opens and closes easily. Adjust the shims as needed. Now screw the window to the framing going through the shims. Cut any shims even with the inside wall. Fill the small gaps with fiberglass insulation or slow expanding spray foam made for windows and doors. Then you can install thin inside stops to cover the gaps. Add window trim. You will need to install a window sill on the outside. A lot of instructions but it will go fast.

I would watch a bunch of videos on YouTube to get the hang of it, and you will need a sawzaw (you can rent one) to cut out the old 2x4s and then cut new ones to fit the opening so you have something to screw the window frame too. Be sure to put some tar paper or house wrap on the opening edges before mounting the window in.
You will also need some moulding around the window inside and out, if can try to take the old piece that is too short to the lumber store to match the rest.
