How to extend the edge of an above-ground pool deck?
When we had a round, above-ground pool built 20 years ago, my husband built a deck on one side of it, the edge of which extended out to cover the top ledge of the pool. The time finally came to replace the pool, and in order to install the new one, it was necessary to trim off enough of the deck edge for the workers to build the new pool. Unfortunately, removing the boards for the installation wasn't a possibility, since the wood screws holding the boards in would not come out, no matter what tricks my husband tried. Since the deck is not large, losing those 6 or so inches makes a difference. We are drawing a blank as to how to "add-on" to extend the edge of the deck back. I was hoping to find a "pop-on" edging that could simply go over the edge of the existing deck, but so far, no dice. Any suggestions?

Could you post a picture of what it looks like now? What is at the edge of the deck structure where it meets the pool now? Structurally, you might be able to cantilever 6 inches back onto the end of the deck by sistering the joists, but it depends on the size of the existing joists, their spacing, which way they run, and where the closest structural beam is that is supported by posts. That is what is carrying the weight of the that extra 6 inches and people standing on it. I can give you more specific instructions, but I need to know the info I just mentioned. Sounds more complicated than it really is. No matter what, there is a solution. It just depends on what is there now. As long as your joists are 2x6, you should be able to make it work without adding new posts or footings.
Hello Gapch, it would be great to see a picture, you may be able to add by putting wood on top of the existing deck. Easier to see a picture before offering any other ideas
I can't see in my mind exactly what you are referring to so please post a picture thanks!!!
What you can do is glue and screw some 1X4/1X6 pressure treated boards to the underside of the deck just short of the pool rim. Then glue and screw deck boards on top of the them extending the deck boards over the pool rim.
