Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Aug 02, 2012Real easy fix. The Home Depot sells a little plastic snake just for this very issue. It costs around $3.00 It is located somewhere in the plumbing section of the store. It is about two feet long, made of plastic and has real tiny barbs much like a rose bush stem. You simply push it down around the drain plug if it cannot be pulled out move it around a bit and pull it back up. Yuk, is all I can say after that. I just purchased this little gem about a week ago as I got tired of removing the trap all the time. If this does not do the trick, then its time to remove the trap underneath the sink, but I doubt you will need to do this. To clean this nifty gadget, put in toilet bowl and move it up and down. This will release all the gunk stuck to the little barbs. Drano makes this tool also and comes with their larger gallon size drain cleaner. I think the tool is part of the package. Hope that helps!Helpful Reply

Kay Cass on Aug 02, 2012Try pouring a gallon of bleach into the drain. Wait 15 minutes, then pour 2 gallons of boiling water down the drain. If this helps, but the drain is still a little slow, repeat. It is cheap and it usually works for any slow drain.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Aug 02, 2012Using bleach as a drain cleaner is very dangerous and not suggested. While you may have had success with this method it is simply not suggested as a way to clear drains. If Drano did not clear it or do its job you must snake it out. What is doing the job is the boiler water. That is dissolving the solids that have collected such as toothpaste and soap scum that is holding all the hair from shaving and brushing. Please be careful with using any chemicals that are not designed to be used in that manner. We want you to stay safe so you can come back with more questions later on!Helpful Reply

Mary Hare on Aug 07, 2012try taking off the plate on the drain and look to see if hair clumb are stuck in there, usually that is the trick..Most likely you have a clog that is not too far down in the drain.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Aug 08, 2012I agree with woodbridge....chemicals should be avoided...that much bleach would seriously impact the biological activity that keeps my septic tank working properly. Removing a trap and clearing a hair ball is all that is normally needed. For kitchen drain health I run a few gallons of steaming hot water from the tap every couple of weeks....I do not have a disposal and have never had a clog there in 20 years.Helpful Reply

Kim on Aug 02, 2015How to unclog a drain without Drano using baking soda and vinegar Ingredients: 1/4 – 1/2 cup baking soda 1/2 – 1 cup white distilled vinegar 1/2 – 1 gallon of boiling water (8 – 16 cups) You’ll also need something to “plug” or cover the drain after you pour in the ingredients. Directions: Looking for a natural way to unclog your drains without drano. Here's a super effective way to do... for cheap. Before you begin make sure to remove any drain stops or plugs. You want an open drain for this to work. 1. Pour baking soda down the drain. Really get it down. I’ve used the skinny part of a funnel before to help “ease” the stuff down. (Ease, shove… whatever.) 2. Pour in half the vinegar and quickly cover the drain with something to keep the “fizz” going down the drain. (Sense a pattern here?) Once it has stopped fizzing, pour the remaining vinegar and quickly cover the drain again. 3. Keep it covered and let the mixture sit for 15 – 30 minutes. Use this time to boil your water. 4. Slowly pour boiling water down the drain. Nice, easy, and slow. Pour it directly into the drain. Depending on the severity of the clog, you may have to repeat this entire process 2 or even 3 times. But trust this dynamic duo to do its thing! It always works for me. I love it.Helpful Reply
