Dishwasher is creating residue/white on my dishes and tableware, including my glasses
I use my dishwasher once a week and therefore the dishes are scraped and rinsed before putting in the unit. I end up putting a 1/2 cup vinegar in a bowl and running it again. It is my understanding this is not good for the rubber, etc on the seals, pump, etc. - I called both companies and the only explanations are 1. lack of phosphates; 2. old product. Finish asked me if I put the tablet in the main dispenser and closed the door (that was the instructions) So - what do I do now? I really don't want to wash them by hand although in a sense I'm almost doing that.
Look forward to y'all's replies.

KMS Woodworks on Aug 29, 2012Do you have a water softner? If not a product like this may help. If your water is hard the thermal cycles of the dishwasher will "extract" the minerals like the build up that forms in a tea kettle. http://www.amazon.com/Miele-Somat-Dishwasher-B1640-Packaging/dp/B000S5UEQC/ref=sr_1_9?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1346287301&sr=1-9&keywords=dishwasher+cleanersHelpful Reply

San on Aug 29, 2012No KMS, I do not have a water softener. Getting one is not an option. I never had this problem before so I don't understand it.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Aug 30, 2012Are you on a well? or city...and do you know what your water tests at in terms of hardness? this type of "soiling" is normally due to carbonates which can be dissolved with acidic cleaners...like vinegar. Have you tried adding some 100% vinegar to a spray bottle and "misting" the inside of the dishwasher? When I was on a well we used vinegar to "mist" the glass shower doors..it worked like a charm. http://fcit.usf.edu/florida/docs/w/waterhard.htmHelpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Aug 30, 2012Try using Finish Glass magic. We had the same issue with our machine. http://www.soap.com/p/finish-glass-magic-dishwasher-performance-booster-16-oz-217618 I also noticed that all the tiny holes in the swing arms were plugged with water hardness so I removed all the parts and cleaned them using a stiff brush, some tooth picks and soaked them in CLR. But even without that the white film went away right at the first washing. It took a few cleanings to remove the film off of the glassware however. But saw difference right away. I did find that I put a bit more of the stuff in the washer then suggested. But it works. http://www.jelmar.com/CLRbasic.htmHelpful Reply

San on Aug 30, 2012Thank you both. I am on city water. Will definitely use the vinegar in a spray bottle first before taking the arms off. BlessingsHelpful Reply
