What to put on basement stair steps to prevent slipping?

Shirley on Dec 17, 2014I am not sure what it would look like but they have stuff that you put on like firetruck steps for example, or maybe rino guard for truck liners, you would have to research it. You might be able to add paint for different colors, and I do not know if it would adhere to your steps. Or you can get paint with sand already in it for non skid or just carpet. Thats all I got, lol I hope it helped you out.Helpful Reply

Liliana Wells on Dec 18, 2014There are strips that you can put on the stair to prevent you from slipping, similar to the ones you ca put in a bath tub for the same purpose. I have seen them in black. Maybe they have other colors too. Ask at Home Depot.Helpful Reply

Karen Larsen on Dec 18, 2014I have used the black non-skid tape (1" wide) from IKEA. They work very well and were the least expensive that I could find. I mounted them across the entire step about 1" from the edge. Not sure what color stain you have but if it is light this would stand out so make sure you put them exactly in the same position on each step....then it would look like a pattern/design on the step...maybe? The work well, have had them on for 5 years.Helpful Reply

Diane P on Dec 18, 2014Go to the hardware store or store like Lowe's or Home Depot and ask for anti-slip tape for the stairs. You could put one or two strips on each step.Helpful Reply

Erin Maloney on Dec 18, 2014You could also put stair treads on the stairs. They come in both a rubber form and carpet. Some of the carpet types are quite attractive. They fit on the stair with some of the wood exposed on each side.Helpful Reply

Ann on Dec 19, 2014There's paint with sand in it. Make sure you have a handrail, and NEVER Pledge the stairs when dusting them.Helpful Reply
