Jeanette S on Nov 20, 2012I used to make things for people and my friend always said that there was no way a person ever got adequately paid for their work. What you can do is go to a store and look at different tables and get an idea of what new things cost. Also, if there are any botique shops in your area, visit them too. If you plan to be in this very much, you will have this info. Then price your pieces accordingly...give a bit of a discount and compare finish, etc. Remember, Picasso paid the same price for a tube of paint as did anyone else...it was only his talent that set him apart! You do not want to price yourself out of sales, but you do not want to give away your work either. Take some photos showing the price tags. Make up a small notebook with examples.Helpful Reply

Debra on Nov 21, 2012Thank you for your comment. Mostly the furniture that I am working on are old pieces that I do not think I would find in a retail store. Do you have any pieces that you have done and sold that I could see, I am interested to see what you have finished if you don't mind. I guess I am trying to compair. I am very very new to this and would love to see what others as myself are doing. Thank youHelpful Reply

Debra on Nov 21, 2012Mary, is it possible for you to send me a picture of some of your work so that I can see what others are doing and get an idea of what I may need to do. I have just started to do this with small pieces to get a feel for it. I know that I need to work on my craft because as a beginner I have never done anything like this at all. I never even painted a wall. I love what I am doing and want to do it really well. So if you don't mind can you send a picture to my mail box? I would really appreciate it. Thank you. Mary Insana on Nov 21, 2012I can take some pictures of things I have kept..I'm really just getting started too : This could be like the blind leading the blind in our ventures. Right now I do more interior work for others such as painting and window treatments, I do think I underprice myself on most jobs. I did do a wonderful make over on a dining room table for my best friend. She wanted a gold table and it's beautiful. I'll see if she can take a picture for me. The unfortunate thing is my close friends never ask me HOW MUCH ? And I feel uncomfortable bringing up the cost. They usually they take me out to lunch ;-(...... ....I can make my own lunch.Helpful Reply

Debra on Nov 21, 2012I get you. A lot of work can go into doing a table, or any other piece as well but a table is big. Yes I would like to see it if you do not mind. Or maybe one of yours that you have kept. Maybe going forward you can tell your friends that you are selling your work now and perhaps that will plant the seed.Helpful Reply
