Mirror revamp

Shelby @ The Weathered Barn Studio on Feb 21, 2015..Oh, this is so sweet looking ! I like this mirror, I would tape off the mirror area, and use Modern Metals on it to give it a new life. Modern Masters Metal paint has so many finishes and you only have to decide what kind of look you wish it have. :) www.modernmasters.com/Helpful Reply

Carole on Feb 21, 2015I just took a closer look and realise that it is birds - swans or some long necked bird either side of the mirror. How sweet is that. Are you able to bring those features out using a different colour perhaps. Maybe two tone mirror stand?Helpful Reply

Connie on Feb 21, 2015I hadn't thought about that but it could work accentuating the lines of the birds somehow. I will definitely have to consider a two tone look. Yes I believe they are swans. It is a rather graceful looking design so I'm trying to look past the messed up finish and envision something great!Helpful Reply

Connie on Feb 21, 2015Shelbybella do you know which of the modern masters paint to use on metal? I don't think I want a metal look finish. Possibly white or pink and white.Helpful Reply

MissEm on Feb 22, 2015I have painted over many types of metal, including metal trays w glass on the bottom, to a heavy metal vintage napkin holder, and many other kitchen appliance and have never had a problem! Im really girly, so I'd tape off the mirror w painters tape, and paint it w Krylon Spray paint, in ballerina pink! And, for more girly Glam, I'd brush paint on some glitter Decoupage medium...I'm partial to Aleens, even tho I'm a big mod podge fan...and then seal it w a spray sealer...here I alternate between Mod Podge and Aleens Spray sealer, whatever can is closer is what I use. You can use Amy color, and I've even decoupaged pretty paper cut outs of flowers, and other girly type stuff! So fun and girly, and adds a lot of your own personality so something you may otherwise not use! Good luck!Helpful Reply

Kel C on Feb 22, 2015I think a patina, for that aged copper look would look classic if the metal is nice. If not, I would paint the swans with white chalk paint and the mirror glossy black for a nice contrast.Helpful Reply

Connie on Feb 22, 2015Yes the metal coating is coming off mostly on the base but along the bottom of the swans also so I definitely have to do something with it. All great suggestions now I just have to decide what colors!Helpful Reply

Connie on Feb 28, 2015Ladies I found a very similar mirror online. The only difference is the base otherwise it looks exactly the same as this one. The one I found still has the brass finish intact with very little wear. They are asking $750.00 for it so now I'm wondering if I should take this to a professional and have the brass coating redone to preserve tha value. Not saying that the other mirror or this one is really worth that much but I am now wondering if I paint it would it ruin any potential value? Thoughts?Helpful Reply

Maggie May's Gifts on Feb 28, 2015What about wrapping around swans with jute or natural twine...then paint the frame around mirror white or silver for a rustic style mirror?Helpful Reply

Connie on Feb 28, 2015Yes I believe you are right. I think I really would prefer to paint it. The finish is kind of a mess although it's hard to see in the pic I posted. Thanks for the objectivity. What a great group of people on this website! I appreciate you all!Helpful Reply
