I want to paint my kitchen table and chairs, but what color??

Beverly Cady Cabaday on May 08, 2015I'm not sure I would. It's a nice contrast with all the white and grey. But, if you are determine, the thing is, once you paint, you can always paint again...that light green in the pillows would be pretty!Helpful Reply

Shirley Kalinosky on May 08, 2015I agree. Pick up the light green from the pillows and just do the legs. And on the chairs, just the rungs and the slats on the chairs. Beautiful house! Update photos, please.Helpful Reply

Leslie on May 08, 2015I would paint all of the table a blue. green, or yellow except for the table top. Leave the chairs as they are and live with it for awhile. This should give you enough of a pop of color to brighten the space.Helpful Reply

Marion Nesbitt on May 09, 2015Agree with Beverly Cady Cabaday - nice contrast as is - and helps ground the space. Think I would just get a table runner and a fruit bowl.Helpful Reply

Pauliegirl1 on May 09, 2015Why not the blue in the rug? Leave top, or sand and stain a "pecan" color? You already have the same material on chairs as pillows on your sofa....Personally, I think the green would be tooo much, (and green is my favorite color!) as it looks really, really bright, and your home is more muted, overall. Pretty home....Good luck, let us know WHAT you do!!!Helpful Reply

Cynthia Nye on May 09, 2015Leave the table top as is, but paint the legs the blue that seems to be the accent color in the kitchen cabinets. The chairs can be a combo of that same blue with soft white to match the kitchen. The cushions will still coordinate. I would avoid the rug blue as it has its own drama. Also, the runs of the chairs could be blue instead of white, just a thought. Do you know what the blue color is called? Please keep everyone updated.Helpful Reply

Kelly MacGregor on May 09, 2015Lighten and brighten. You'll be happier with it. I understand the people saying keep the contrast but your whole décor is heading in a paler, beachier vibe and if you don't like your table at all right now, then you'll be thrilled with a fresh take on it. What about a mix of white/grey? Look up tutorials on how to either distress or drybrush so it won't look like you're trying to copy the finish of your cabinets and make it too matchy-matchy. If you want to leave the table top wooden and paint table base and chairs, that would be nice. Or, if you sand it all down, you might try Minwax water-based stain - they make a nice whitewash pickling stain that will show the wood grain but still turns it white and bright. Have fun!Helpful Reply

Laurie on May 09, 2015You need some pop of color. Paint the legs lime green and the table top a brilliant yellow. Then paint two chairs brilliant yellow and two lime green. Have fun!Helpful Reply

Donna Oliphint on May 09, 2015One different thought: Since your kitchen isn't huge, you can make it look larger by camouflage. Paint the apron and legs of the table and the chairs either the white of your cabinets or a neutral shade similar to the floor stain. The top of the table can be the same stain as the floor if you paint it white, or a shade or two darker if you go with the neutral color. Your chair cushions, placemats and dishes will be your pop of color, but the table and chairs will seem to disappear into the background of the kitchen, visually enlarging the space. (You used this design technique in your family room! If your sofa and chairs were a bright color the room would look half the size it is, but by using a color close to the wall color you visually enlarged the room.)Helpful Reply

Lo on May 09, 2015you need accent color(s) to the blue and green. It appears you have enough blue and beige. Go for lime or yellow. If you don't like it, you can always change it. The lime on the small table next to the sofa is a pretty color. I would leave the table top alone and paint the trim.Helpful Reply

Susan on May 09, 2015I'm going to suggest mixing it up a bit and using a brighter color reminescent of the beach e.g. teal--light or dark, maybe paint the table legs and apron lighter and the chairs a darker version. Sometimes I mix paint I already have but don't need anymore. You could paint each chair a different color and make it more whimsical. Good luck with your project whatever you do.Helpful Reply

Capernius on May 09, 2015Here's what I think. take a picture of your table with a digital camera. load that into your computer. find/use a photo editing program to play around with different colors... I use the program 'paint.net'(www.paint.net) it's a free program & it does not take up much space on your hard drive. with something like this, you can actually SEE what your table will look like as opposed to trying to imagine what it MAY look like.Helpful Reply

Mall on May 11, 2015It looks like a fairly small and dark room so I would go for something nice and light. You could do a nice light grey shade of blue for the top of the table, then do the chairs and the legs of the table in a nice light blue, it would make the room a lot lighter looking and bigger in the proces.Helpful Reply

Jennifer Love Mendenhall on May 11, 2015I would pull the colors from the seat cushions. The cushions seam to go with the rest of the decor and I think it would really pull it together.Helpful Reply
