I am wanting to make a u shaped curtain rod - any suggestions?

Designs by BSB on Feb 03, 2013How sturdy it needs to be will be dependent on how heavy the curtains you are going to use. So DIY could use PVC or metal plumbing pipes with drop hangers. Will you be able to secure it to the ceiling?Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Feb 03, 2013To add to BeckySue's comment. They make pipe split ring brackets that have a threaded insert on them. You can purchase bolts that have a wood thread on one end and a bolt thread on the other. Simply screw them into the wall, then screw the split ring brackets on the other then fasten the pipe. PVC would be my first try as it bends well. Just put enough brackets on the wall so it does not sag.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Feb 04, 2013The problem I see is that it has to be attached at the back wall and ceiling for the middle...so how is a curtain going to work? I can't explain in words how to put something in place, but you might want to make most of the area a permanent, non sliding curtain, with just an opening on one side. Painted conduit could make a curtain rod any shape you require. Hang it from the ceiling with wire and clips, attach a curtain and have a small place at one end for an opening. A small hook on the wall and a ring sewn onto the curtain could be a closure!Helpful Reply

SLS Construction & Building Solutions LLC on Feb 04, 2013You guys are over-thinking it - order just the hanging kit portion for said shower setup & get some electrical conduit that is similar in size - you can easily rent a bender and create almost any shape. Then all you got to do is secure it The curtain just needs a cutout where the center hanger is - how you get it hung depends on how the center hanger is done / do you have to slide the rod through or does it have a clamp style. FYI - As this is commercial space, that basically rules out PVC as an optionHelpful Reply

Sharron W on Feb 04, 2013We used PVC pipes to hang gauze drapings from the banquet hall for my sisters wedding reception and it was fabulous...we simply spray painted the pipes with kiltz to cover the printing on them...and used picture hanging wire to attach them to clips on the ceiling tiles...now I realize you want something that is going to have less "movement" than those gauzy panels....but the principal for hanging the middle support would certainly work....and we used a "steamer" to heat some pipes and make them flex so we could build a flowered "wedding arch"...again it worked beautifully...Helpful Reply
