Jonnie Hammon on Aug 23, 2015Vacuum it out, put in a clean filter, then add Freon. Check it out for leaks, and set your thermostat a little higher. It should never be below 78 degrees unless it is 95 degrees out side. (Or lower). Ours used to do the same thing. Use fans to circulate the air, ceiling fans should be made to blow the hot air up to the ceiling. That will also help. Then you can reverse the fan, to blow down, in the winter.Helpful Reply

Denise on Aug 23, 2015Always check your filter first.....when I first got central air, I did not know it needed to be changed every month and the dang thing looked like it had a quilt on it. Had made the unit actually freeze up with ice. Also, sometimes they install flappers in the ducts where they connect to the main duct....maybe those have wiggled loose and closed?!?Helpful Reply

Merle Ketchum on Aug 23, 2015In Canada, summer comes short and hot, I had the same problem this year after buying a new home and not familiar with the pleasure of an AC home. Firstly turn it off for 12 hrs and let the frost melt, it's working too hard. Our repair guy said the freon had leaked out and our outside unit had to be "recharged" . Cost about $200.00 but worth it. Your electricity bill will be that much if your unit never shuts off. Gook luck!Helpful Reply
