Basement ceiling gridwork replace tiles creatively-ideas

I want to fix basement for playroom. Grandkids have moved in (2,5yr). I have existing gridwork for ceiling, but old-many tiles need replaced. I can replace lighting, but tiles terribly expensive. I know it can't be too heavy for gridwork. Any thoughts from creative minds out there?

You can use painted wooden planks. That's a cheaper option that will still look stylish

thanks! I'll check to see if there is a cheaper wood that's thin enough to not be too heavy

Check local salvage stores, they often have new tiles that were discontinued. If they are ugly spray paint can work magic.

You could also cover the ugly tiles (if they are not broken) with wall paper, peal and stick backsplash, or even fabric. Each tile could be the same or different...the kids would love it.

neat idea. I have 8 broken tiles, but I love the idea!
