How can I cover pipes in my basement that I am finishing?

I am finishing off the basement in an older home and have sewage pipes that are along about one third of an exterior wall. I would like to box them in, but they are in an almost Y shape on the wall. Because of the pattern of the pipes I am afraid boxing them in will look unattractive. Is there anyone who has done something creative with this type of project

We have the same situation. Lots of plumbing pipes with purple glue and red printing on them plus the black foam insulation .

We were advised to use special Valspar bonding primer for slick surfaces. We primed the pipes next painted them to match the walls. It helped disguise them and made the room look better.

How about wrapping them in artificial vines for a tropical look?

You may want to build out the wall about eight inches and hide them. Or box the space with bookcases.

Boxing them in with the box painted the same color as the walls will look much more finished, and be much less visually distracting than it is now. Make one side of the 'box' like a door with hinges so that it can be easily opened if access to the pipes is needed.

We did this! Thanks. I am going to use a picture as the "door" to the pipes and put hinges on it to break it up a bit.

Great! 'Glad to hear that you had success with the idea. Post a picture of the 'finished' space (simply done,as a reply to this thread,) to share it with others.

Btw, where in Canada are you?
